To my own amazement, I accepted the role this year of Co-Director of the Southern Marin Mothers’ Club (SMMC). I had had all these goals of losing weight, taking up running again and organizing my three-and-a-half year old’s artwork and craft projects in my ever decreasing spare time. Oh well, that can happen next year because we are a third of the way through our year and I have to say I am so impressed by the women who give their time to such a great organization that serves over 1,200 members in southern Marin!

Last week, SMMC offered an educational series event by Dr. Luann Brizendine talking about her new book The Male Brain. This is a woman who has been featured on NPR and Fox News and was just featured at a paid-for event in San Francisco with 900 attendees. Our event was free to our members! We also hosted a play date in the park in Belvedere over the weekend. We must have had 100 families attend. We will be hosting our upcoming Spring BBQ in Tiburon in a couple of weeks. All of these events and so much more are free to our members.

At a recent SMMC new member social, I spoke with a mom who had just moved here from New Jersey. She said she had been a member of a mom’s group back East but stopped attending their events because it just felt “clique–ee.” She said how great it was to meet some new moms in the community who were so welcoming and eager to help her get settled in her new home. She was very thankful for all of the efforts of SMMC to welcome the new members to the club, including herself.
